To ensure our kitties are matched with an appropriate, forever home, please be aware that there is a matching/screening process involved in adopting a pet from IBOK Rescue.
IBOK Rescue makes a concerted effort to match each kitty with a suitable new home.
Each kitty is different, with different needs and idiosyncrasies. This is why we screen potential adoptive homes so carefully. Not only does this help in finding the best forever homes, but that we are placing our kitties in loving, responsible, and committed homes.
Sometimes, as wonderful a home as you may have, a particular animal may just not be suitable for your situation. An animal that has had bad experiences with small children is not a good choice as a family pet. One, who is afraid of loud noises, would not do well in a home with a busy family. Just the opposite, an active animal that thrives on activity and action would be miserable in a home with someone who works 40+ hours a week and gives no other stimulation.
NOTE: We reserve the right to turn down potential adopters as we deem necessary.
A home delivery or visit is a required part of the adoption procedure. Therefore we only adopt to homes within Santa Clara County.
It is our policy not to adopt single kittens younger than six months to homes without other cats. And we prefer to adopt them in pairs. To learn why adopting two kittens is better than adopting one, click here.
Kittens are not available until at least nine weeks old and two pounds in weight.
A donation is required. We require a tax-deductible donation of $125 (to help defray the medical costs incurred) for each kitten and $200 for a pair. Additional donations are appreciated, as it helps pay for medical, food and the items listed above. All donations are tax deductible.
We provide the following services to each animal under our care.
Complete health exam
All vaccinations appropriate for cat's age
Spay or Neuter
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) testing
Feline Leukemia (FeLv) testing
Microchip Identification
Advantage flea and mite protection, if appropriate
De-worming
Any other necessary medical care.
All monies donated are used to pay the medical bills of the animals that come into our care. As we are an all-volunteer, non-profit organization and receive no government funding, we would be unable to offer services without your donation.
We interview all potential parents to ensure the well-being of the animal to be adopted. After a successful interview an adoption agreement is signed. The agreement covers the following qualifications for adoption:
To be considered for adoption:
You must be 21 years old or older and have legal identification showing your present address.
Complete and submit the adoption application either online, via email (copy/paste the document into an email and send to us) or if you are at or going to one of our pet fairs, you can fill out the application there or fill it out on your computer, print, and bring it with you to the pet fair.
Provide the name and phone number of current veterinarian.
If you are a renter, we require that you show us a copy of your lease stating that you are allowed to have pets (type and how many) or provide us with a telephone number to contact your landlord.
That you understand and agree that the kittens or cats you adopt from us are NOT to be declawed, must remain INDOORS ONLY, and are NOT to wear flea collars. An IBOK volunteer can provide you with information on why this is so important.
That you will provide the animal with a loving home, nutritional food, medical care (including immunizations) as required to maintain good health and never to physically abuse or otherwise harm him or her.
You will notify IBOK Rescue immediately if this animal is lost.
That in the event that you are unable to keep this animal or properly care for her or him for any reason, you will return the kitty(s) to IBOK Rescue and that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will you ever place this animal with any Humane Society or Animal Shelter because you can no longer keep it; doing so could result in them being euthanized --- we will take them back!
That you will not have this animal euthanized unless a veterinarian has determined that it is terminally ill, AND a IBOK Rescue volunteer is notified and agrees to the euthanasia.
That you understand and agree that IBOK Rescue has the right to remove this animal from your home if you have misrepresented yourself or your position in any way. If this animal is not receiving adequate care or if there has been any violation of this agreement, you understand that IBOK Rescue may request to visit at any time to see how the animal is doing in your care.
Kittens are NOt adopted to homes with toddlers (for the safety of the child and the kitten).
Every kitty is delivered to its new home to help with the transition.
All kitties are spayed or neutered prior to a completed adoption.
If your kitty becomes sick within seven days of adoption, you must contact IBOK Rescue. We will only provide medical care if you contact a IBOK Rescue volunteer to receive authorization to take the kitten or cat to an IBOK Rescue approved veterinarian, which may or may not be your current veterinarian. IBOK Rescue will not be responsible for costs incurred at any veterinarian without prior approval from one of our volunteers. IBOK Rescue will not pay for care resulting from an accident or neglect.
If for any reason you wish or need to return a cat you've adopted from us, you can do so within 72 hours for a full refund of the adoption donation. After that, be it months or years later, if you need to give up the animal, please bring it to us. We won't be able to refund the adoption fee, but we will place it in a new home.
We offer a return warranty on all animals adopted through us, for the life of that animal. Which means, if the adoption does not work out, or the new owner's circumstances change, we want the animal to come back to us rather than be placed in an unsuitable home, be abandoned, or taken to an animal shelter where it may be euthanized. In fact, our written contract requires that the cat or kitten be returned to us if you can no longer care for him or her.
